When BMW added water cooling to the R 1200 GS, the radiator became a new vulnerability on a proven adventure platform. A stick through the core or a rock to the fins can end a long trip fast. This guard is built to prevent that.
The louver design does two jobs at once: it deflects debris and keeps air moving through the radiator. The guard sits a minimum half inch from the radiator face, so airflow is never choked.
Installation uses only the three bolts already holding the shroud. No extra hardware, no spacers, no fairing removal. The guard geometry matches the shroud contours exactly, and the wide mounting tab spreads impact loads across the full mount — not just a narrow point. It's a straightforward upgrade that protects a critical system without adding complexity.
